Great food, friendly staff who really care about you enjoying your meal. I watched one of the guys spend a few minutes telling a customer about bologna and different types and letting them taste some to help them decide what they wanted. That's old-school customer service! This was my second visit, and I was super impressed both times! It's not always super fast, but it's always worth the visit.
I do not meander too far from the basics, I have not had a sandwich for years from here, however I do order the chicken finger and fries from time to time, which are perfect. I decided to try the chicken quesadilla, super flavorful and prepared just right.
In 1974-75 I worked at the Bonded gas station on the NE corner of Troy and Chapel, now a parking lot. Every shift I'd go to Charlie's when Charlie worked there. I still remember the ham sandwich
Tried the german potato salad, cabbage roll, Erie coast sub, and the 2 pounder sub. Everything was delicious and the amount of food for the price was incredible. I could see easily paying double the price for a similar sub at other places. Service was fast and friendly! I highly recommend!
Great Rueben sandwich. Friendly staff. Wide variety of deli sandwiches. Well worth a stop. Atmosphere best describe as very unpretentious. It's all about the food!
Best sandwich shop in dayton. Never had a bad meal here. My favorites are "the smokey", "the coyboy", and the Ruben.
Everything we’ve tried has been phenomenal the Ruben is amazing don’t change a good thing up. The cow boy burger is amazing. Best hot deli around
A hidden gem! They really do have the best Ruben in Dayton! The German potato salad was different but delicious! I will become back an try other things
This place is definitely a favorite. They have some of the most amazing sandwiches. You definitely get a bang for your buck. I keep coming back. They are fantastic to their customers. People I suggest you go try this place out, you won't be disappointed. Thank you to my new favorite sandwiche shop....
I had a black forest sandwich here and it was great! The menu looks incredible. I can't wait to go back and try something else on the menu.
Definitely worth a visit! A lot of different sandwiches to try. I had the reuben burger and it was absolutely amazing.

I've been here a few times, but today really put me over the top about this being my favorite lunch spot in Dayton!
Today, I had the luxury of speaking with the owner Chris. This man is 100% involved in his business and wants it to represent high quality Deli standards.
The sheer amount of time, energy, and effort that he puts into sourcing his breads and meats is beyond anything I can comprehend.
We spoke about how he seeks the best bread from Tampa for his cubans, he looks for the best Meats all around the world, and he's always trying to find the way to make the sandwich experience better.
If you haven't been here yet, get there!
If you're looking to support a local, small business, this is it!
One of the main things that stands out for me is that if you get any of these sandwiches or burgers at any other restaurant in town, not only will they be inferior and quality, but they will be three times the cost.
True authenticity complimented with talent and passion makes Charlie's Deli my favorite lunch spot in Ohio.
Always a great sandwich here, a Dayton Gem !
I love the food here, and it never disappoints. We ordered a Mango, Cowboy, Cali Reuben and Cheesy Chicken and Country potato soup, baklava. It's the only place I'll order a Reuben of any kind. I was a lil sad that were out of cheesecake and their chili, but that's to be expected, lol. Grippos galore and also always able to find black cherry soda in glass bottles and Cheerwine soda which are always good.
Very nice little sandwich joint! Super cool people, and they will make you whatever you want, Not to mention the BEST grilled chicken sandwich I've had in quite some time... I travel for work from Columbus but every time I'm in the Dayton area I stop by for lunch!!! About six times now and they are always the best! And The Price is Right too... nasty fast food joints are like $11 for a combo meal, but I get a chicken sandwich and potato salad for like nine bucks... even if they had to raise their prices a little bit it's so worth it, very fresh cooked to order food, glad I found this place!
So we’ve been in Old North Dayton for about a year now and we’ve lived literally right across the street from them and just never been in . And I’m glad we went today . Their Cubano is good but their Barnyard is where it’s at . That sandwich the bread the meat combo it was amazing . Will defiantly be going back
One of a kind! This place is the definition of "hole in the wall". Incredible food, service, and atmosphere. I travel all over the country for work and am always on the hunt for unique food and experiences. Charlies is just that, if your ever in the Dayton area it's a must stop and try. I will definitely be back next time I'm in town!
I am rating the atmosphere 5 stars despite the dining area being basically a back storage room with some tables in it.
Their food is incredible. Everything on the menu basically. I get something different every time I go. The prices are really reasonable and they have a huge selections of snacks, chips, drinks, etc.
10/10 place. If you're in Dayton you have to go here.
What a hidden gem. Forget about the chains when in Dayton, especially when you pay $10+ for a sandwich that leaves you with buyers remorse. This place is an old school counter service deli that brings quality and value to its patrons.
Our daughters ordered a grilled cheese and classic turkey sandwich. The oldest liked her turkey, but snuck a bite of her sister's grilled cheese and said it was the best she ever had... Youngest was willing to give one bite, but that was the extent of her generosity. Next time.
My wife and I had specialty sandwiches. I opted for the cuban because I think the simplicity of ingredients leaves no room for hiding poor execution... It's my go to for testing the chops of a sandwich joint. They nailed it. Top 3 ever.
Bottom line, something for the whole fam. 4x high quality sandwiches and a sprite for $22... We'll be back.
I think I found my new lunch spot ! I started with something simple today (Charlie special) & meat was sliced to order with fresh veggies. I was looking forward to trying some Cabbage rolls but they were out :( Overall it was a great sandwich & looking forward to trying their vast array of sandwich/ food options !
We love this hometown deli! Prices are affordable and the service is always great. The food is always second to none. Seating area for dine in is a little strange but who cares when the food is amazing. Also side note the owner says he's trying to renovate the seating area.
I love Charlies. I went there the other day because I was out and about and thought I would stop by. I usually get their BLT or another deli like sandwich but I had never had one of their burgers. Well le me tell you. It was the BEST burger I've ever had. It was the 1/2 pounder on onion bun. Oh my gosh. You have got to try a burger or a sandwich here. Their soups and salads are good to I've heard. But I did get bean soup one dreary day last year but it wasn't the best. Kinda runny. But overall. I love this place. (Clean up that back sitting area. Its a darn mess but the fish tanks are cool.
What an awesome quaint place. The food is delicious!
Good food. Friendly folk. Cabbage roll was good and well packed to prevent spillage. Cowboy sandwich and gatlin burger also looked and tasted great.
Rating this place on what it is, a deli that makes great sandwiches. This place is a favorite with working people who stop in pick up lunch and go. They also have an area in the back to dine. Nothing fancy but homey. You go in decide what you want and they have a large selection of sandwiches soups and sides. They also sell pop and beer and wine to go. After you place your order at one counter they'll call you and you pay at the other counter. Place has been in business as Charlie's close to 60 years. My Dad took me there once in the late 70s to get a "Dagwood".
Another great experience at Charlie's deli. It seems I have a problem...I'm hooked. This visit I took my husband. So I was able to try two new things because he got something different then mine. 😆 everything was perfect. Incredible flavors 😋
